Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru

Delicacy and Elegance

This cuvée has been elaborated from the five Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs : Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger.

Tasting notes

This Chardonnay cuvée is a blend of two different years revealing the special quality of the Chardonnay. The complexity of this cuvée, its great vinosity and a surprisingly fresh finish is particularly appreciated by a following of informed wine lovers.

APPEARANCE

The fine mousse of delicate bubbles elegantly accompanies the glints of its golden colour.

PALATE

The creamy sensation of the bubbles combines with buttered brioche and mineral aromas. It has a persistent finish with a fresh and elegant sweetness.

AROMA

A pure intensity of dry fruits aromas, almonds and fresh hazelnuts mixed with those of white flesh fruits.

TASTING

Enjoy not only with caviar or fine oysters but also with grilled fish and seafood.

Serve at: 8°C

In Perfect Harmony with Luc Mobihan

Chef at the Restaurant Saint Placide*, Saint-Malo

The first time I tasted a cuvée from Maison Billecart-Salmon, it was on my 20th birthday. A day that I will never forget! More often than not I taste the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru cuvée from magnum. The 100% Chardonnay fully reveals itself in this format. I like the mineral aspect which is taut, vivid and with a slight richness. A perfect balance between delicacy and elegance with a finish that is strengthened by the minerality. In Saint Placide, we propose a smoked salt turbot. The natural flavour of the turbot and the contrast with the smoked salt is revealed by the finesse and the persistence on the palate. The harmony is evident with this exceptional cuvée. For me, any place is perfect for tasting the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru. From the very first sip, you know that it’s going to be a great experience in an ideal location and especially if you’re in good company on an island off the coast of Saint-Malo, for a simple picnic away from it all except for the pleasures of that exact instant. A moment that is just magic.

Guide notes

16/20 - Bettane & Desseauve 2018
17/20 - Gault & Millau 2018

The House’s style is evident in this Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru: elegant, refined wines which never overpower but which are controlled in favour of a quite unique balance. On the nose it evokes scents of citrus zest, wet chalk, notes of brioche and dried fruits. The palate unites breadth of flavour with finesse and a long finish with chalky notes. Superb.
